Debating

Well done to the debating team who competed in Round 1 of the HICES Debating Competition last week. They took on the role of the affirmative team and argued "That we should be allowed to keep native animals as pets". They did a fantastic job and, even though they did not come away with a win, the team represented our school brilliantly.
We wish our second team of students all the best for their upcoming debate in Week 8.

Ch Ch Changes

Year 5 have had an exciting time over the last few weeks working in our new Science area to investigate the three states of matter: solid, liquid and gas.
Firstly we predicted whether materials were solid or liquid and even made our own slime to determine whether it was a solid or liquid. It turns out it is a Non-Newtonian fluid!
We then investigated different gases and collected samples of air. Year 5 discussed whether we thought air and other types of gas have mass, take up space and keep their shape.

This week Year 5 have begun to look at the way changes in the state of everyday materials relate to the addition and removal of heat. We planned our own system to produce ice cream, made it and ate it! Year 5 is loving discussing, investigating and experimenting in Science in our new space. We can't wait to see what we will do next!
