Sports Heroes Day

Yesterday we had a fantastic time with our Sports Heroes day and cross country. There were many characters including the Matilda's, Dennis Lillee, Olympic Ice Skaters and plenty of soccer supporters.

Year 6 also had fun investigating refraction as part of our light unit of work. Check out Dennis Lillee's response to using google cardboard.

Science Fun - Learn, Make, Understand

During Science we have been discovering how light works. As part of our research we have found that light can be bent. We have also observed how light is created within lightbulbs. Thank you Mr Edison!

Research on Asia and Problem Solving

Today has been packed full with learning. This morning we learnt about a Rube Goldberg Machine and how scientist identify problems then work to overcome these, despite failures. The failures become steps towards future success.

We then took time to trial out problem solving skills using MIT's Scratch program. Students needed to code a "Sprite" to engage with them in a simple "Siri" like manner.

Finally, our focus shifted to our research on the Asian countries we will be presenting on later in the term and the design of our device that can see around corner using mirrors.

Practical Maths Problem Solving

This morning Year 6 engaged with some practical mathematics problem solving. Students needed to work in groups to collaboratively create a controller to answer their maths tasks. This activity showed students the need for negotiation and building on each other's ideas to be successful.
