Year Six involve The Honourable Craig Kelly in a Parliamentary Debate.

The two Year Six classes prepared a speech to present in a mock Parliamentary Debate.

The Bills were All 18 year olds should join the Defence Force for One Year and School Children should have Shorter School Hours.
The students - Members of Parliament -Ministers -  presented many worthwhile arguments and the debate was strong.

Mr Kelly joined into the debate to make the debate more interesting. He also helped us understand how a Parliamentary Debate is conducted in the House Of Representatives.

After the Bill was debated we took the vote. The bells were ringing and the door was locked. Students voted. The votes were counted by the tellers and then the clerk reported the results to the Speaker who announced them.

The students will write a reflective blog post to talk about what they have learned. This will form part of their Assessment for the topic of State and Federal Government.

  11. Mr Kelly explained his job to us in complete detail, not leaving out any information. Having him critique our debates was a pleasure, and taught each of us how bills are made in simple words, but the description was still perfectly clear.
