Teaching Global Connections

Year 6 has been working on a project to design an interactive learning activity to teach a small group of Year 4 students about how Australia is connected to the wider world. Today was the day they got to teach their lessons. Everyone worked hard to prepare their activities and to make them fun and informative. The Year 4 students had a great time and learned lots. Year 6 learned how challenging it can be to teach, but also that teaching helps you consolidate what you've learned.

Year Six Create an Interactive Activity to Teach Year 4 about Global Connections

This term Year Six has studied Aussie. Connections to the World.

Research, google slides, oral presentations, expert groups and creating an interactive learning experience. What a way to learn and then teach!

Here are some students working on their interactive activities and then trying them out.

Students Become the Teachers

After reading Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes the Year Six students viewed a you tube about creating paper cranes. They then created some. The challenge then was to plan a  fifteen minute activity that would teach a group of students how to do something. Today was the day. The students arrived with an air of excitement. Here are some photographs of the students in action. After this time of creativity the students blogged about their experiences. I have to say that 100% of the students loved this exercise and want to do it again. Stay tuned for Term 3 to see what we come up with.

Teaching in Teams

Today Year 6 worked in teams of four. Each person came to class ready to teach their team how to do or make something. They brought all the equipment and resources needed and instructed their team by showing them what to do. We made a mess but we cleaned it up again and had a lot of fun learning new skills!
There was a wide variety of activities: making slime, making cheese puffs, lava lamps, paper planes, paper flowers, learning to drum, learning basketball skills, how to make a scrum and many more! Enjoy the photos.

Year 6 Photography

Every fortnight, 6D splits into two groups. This semester, the first half of the class has been doing media and the other half has been doing photography. Today, Mrs Davis took a quick peek at one of the last photography lessons for group 2. Here's a little bit of what they did.
Today's lesson was about Photoshop. Mrs Stivaktas talked about Photoshop and how to use it. After playing around with some different filters, everyone went onto their own tech to edit some other photos. Some of the softwares that were used were: Pixlr, iPhoto, PicMonkey, Photo Booth and Adobe Photoshop.
There was so much fun to be had within this amazing lesson! As some people didn't have laptops, Mrs Stivaktas kindly let us take turns and learn how to use Adobe Photoshop. Here are some of the end products...
Although we absolutely love photography, we can't wait to swap into media!
